Geeks in Gis is ran by two geeks that enjoy martial arts, weight training, and sports.
Lesley Harrison
Lesley Harrison is a tech author and games journalist. She is the author of two books, which were published by Packt Publishing – the WordPress-MU 2.8 Beginner’s Guide was published in October 2009, and the TortoiseSVN 1.7 Beginner’s Guide was published in January 2011.
Lesley is currently working on Weight Training For Women: A Beginner’s Guide, which will be published by Need2Know Publishing in November 2011.
Lesley is interested in Open Source software. She was a tech reviewer for the Robin Nixon’s Ubuntu Up And Running – which was published by O’Reilly in 2009, and works with the Ubuntu Women project to improve Free and Open Source Software.
Lesley has been working in IT for more than ten years. She started as a web developer, then worked as a systems administrator for a large tech support outsourcing company. She has also worked as a database developer.
When she is not working at the computer, Lesley enjoys weight training and Karate. She holds 4th Kyu in Shukokai Karate, and took third place in the SRKA Summer 2011 Women’s Open Kumite tournament. She is currently working towards competing in the YNEPF Unequipped powerlifting championships.
Mark Harrison
Mark Harrison is a computer programmer and games journalist. He enjoys programming in C++ and his traditional programming education means that he is adept at writing sleek, low resource requirement applications.
Mark is an avid gamer, enjoying all genres of console and PC games.
Away from the computer, he holds a 4th Kyu in Shukokai Karate. He enjoys competitions and has enjoyed a lot of success, earning three trophies to date:
- 3rd place in the SRKA Men’s Brown Belt and Under Kumite (Winter 2010)
- 3rd Place in the SRKA Men’s Open Kumite (Winter 2010)
- 3rd Place in the SRKA Men’s Brown Belt and Under (Summer 2011)
He enjoys powerlifting but has had to put his training on hold for a short time because of a wrist injury.
